Independent Funeral Directors covering Chelmsford and Essex

Word from the Paul Yarwood Ceo of Secure Haven on our New Location.

Secure Haven recently moved from our previous location to a brand-new facility on Hospital Approach, Broomfield. Having received many interesting comments on social media regarding our location, mostly positive and some negative, I just wanted to explain the reason for this move.

Like many of the families that reach out to us we have also suffered personal loss of friends and close family. My mother sadly passed away at a hospital and my father a hospice. At the time, I had very little experience in these matters and had to visit my local High Street to arrange both of their funerals.

When we were at our Grade II Listed building in rural Margaretting we were always told that our vision to offer an open, welcoming environment to our families was extremely helpful and beneficial to those suffering a loss.

Unfortunately for many families, the fact that we were not on a main road often meant that by the time they found us it was too late for them to use our services.

At Broomfield, we can offer free advice to all the families who are bereaved; about to be bereaved or indeed who wish to plan for the future. Today, people wish to talk more openly about dying and want to take control of their own end of life care which is not an easy conversation. Talking about death does not make it happen but being in control of your own funeral wishes can bring peace of mind to a family.

Since we have opened we have had many families visit us who are relieved that they can discuss their options & costings prior to actual need.

We have spoken to and received a warm welcome from representatives from the Macmillan Carers, Farleigh Hospice, and the bereavement team at Broomfield Hospital all of whom understand the need to support and assist families dealing with end of life care and grieving families.

The location of a funeral directors will always cause some upset. For some being near a hospital or hospice may seem unkind yet the institutions themselves and the families have welcomed us. Were we to locate by a school or on a busy High Street I am sure the same objections would arise as, understandably, those that may have not suffered loss themselves may feel that any funeral director no matter where can be a little unsettling.

Therefore, our facility has been designed and decorated to be modern, calm and most importantly of all, welcoming for those afraid to walk in the door.

We always welcome anyone to pay us a visit so that we can introduce ourselves; share our knowledge and experience of this profession to show how we can help our community on its circle of life journey.

Thanks and Regards,

Paul Yarwood, Secure Haven.
